Why Cuzen Matcha Leaf
We believe that just like specialty coffee, matcha should be freshly-ground.

At Cuzen, we have strict standards of quality and only offer specialty matcha.

Organic and shade-grown

Only a small percentage of Japanese tea farms are fully organic. We make sure to source our shade-grown, whole matcha leaves from organic farmers because we know that when you drink matcha, you are consuming the entire leaf.

Directly sourced

We’re proud to work with farming partners who use only natural pest deterrents and organic fertilizers. These farmers not only yield a more nutritious and flavorful leaf, they also take care of our shared planet.

Leaf cut size

We deliver our whole leaves specially dried and cut to best fit the Matcha Maker.

Why freshly-ground matters

Freshly-ground has always been better

Before pre-ground matcha powder became the industry standard, traditional tea masters ground whole matcha leaves into powder just before serving. The drinker could experience matcha at the height of its freshness.

Because regular, pre-ground matcha powder is finely ground into small particles, more surface area is touched by oxygen than that of whole matcha leaves. This means pre-ground matcha powder oxidizes faster than whole leaves that are stored until grinding.

The above difference in color is due to whole matcha leaves keeping higher levels of chlorophyll a (thus its greener color) than pre-ground matcha powder.
